Is it right for you?
Sports-related injuries and chronic conditions can be difficult to treat and may not heal on their own. A Rothman specialist will diagnose the problem and recommend the best treatment options if you have any of the following:
- Severe pain and inability to put weight on the injured body part
- Pain and tenderness when touching the area over or around an injured joint
- injured area that looks crooked or has lumps and bumps (other than swelling) or has a different shape or size when compared to the opposite extremity
- Inability to move the injured joint
- Significant pain when walking
- limb buckles or gives way at the joint
- Numbness in any part of the injured area
- Redness or red streaks spreading out from the injury site
- Pain, swelling, or redness over the injured area
- You have doubts about the seriousness of the injury or how to care for it.

Treatments range from non-operative approaches such as braces, orthotics, medication, and physical therapy, to surgery. This includes minimally invasive arthroscopic approaches that use a camera to look inside a joint and perform repairs with specialized instruments that speed healing and recovery.
Rothman’s team approach includes input from orthopedic surgeons, non-surgical sports specialists, rehabilitation specialists, athletic trainers, and physical therapists.
Team Coverage Program
If you are an athletic director, athletic trainer, or anyone who is tasked with finding coverage for an athletic program, team, or large-scale sporting event, the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Sports Medicine Team can help. Our physicians provide medical coverage, clinics, and educational seminars for athletes, coaches, and families.
Certified Athletic Trainers
Rothman’s team includes Certified Athletic Trainers (AT) with advanced credentials. In our clinic, they work with physicians to identify and treat sports-related problems.
Our Field Athletic Trainers provide direct sports medicine care to youth, high school, college and professional athletes. Rothman ATs provide athletic training services throughout Southeastern PA and NJ to interscholastic high schools and colleges, and for tournaments and special events.
