Michael Amini, MD is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon, specializing in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow. Regardless if his patients want to throw a baseball over 90 miles per hour or just raise their arm above their head without pain, he believes every person deserves the same level of care that is custom fit for his or her needs.
He was one of the earliest surgeons in the country to adopt muscle-sparing shoulder replacements that allow some people to start using their shoulder the very same day of their replacement. He continues to innovate this technique and teaches other surgeons how to do it, as well.
He offers a wide range of treatments, including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), tendon transfers and the subacromial balloon for irreparable rotator cuff tears, arthroscopic treatment of Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, treatment of scapular winging, and other specialized treatments.
Before coming to Rothman he practiced at The CORE Institute in Phoenix, AZ, where he was Chief of The Shoulder Division, and Senior Vice President of Research and Medical Affairs. He was awarded 1st place, Outstanding Orthopaedic Care by Tucson Local Media/Inside Tucson Business in 2017, and was voted Top Doc in Phoenix Magazine by fellow physicians in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
When he's not working, he can be found with his wife and four children, often manning the grill as a backyard BBQ aficionado.
