
John J. Mangan, M.D., M.H.A., is an ABOS Board Certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He serves as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.Dr. Mangan completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at Rothman Orthopaedics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was selected as the Richard H. Rothman Distinguished Orthopaedic Resident. Following his residency, he was awarded a fellowship in combined Neurosurgical and Orthopaedic Complex Spine Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio where he was selected as Chief Fellow.
Dr. Mangan is a native of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Scranton. He received his medical degree from the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. During medical school, he also earned a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration.
Dr. Mangan has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters and abstracts and has presented his research nationally and internationally. He continues to pursue clinical research that aims to improve patient outcomes after spine surgery and further our knowledge of the degeneration of the spine.
Dr. Mangan specializes in treating degenerative conditions as well as traumatic injuries of the spine. He has a particular interest in treating cervical and lumbar spine conditions utilizing techniques tailored to each patient’s particular needs. Treatments range from spinal reconstruction to minimally invasive surgeries as well as motion preserving procedures of the cervical spine.
