Rothman’s Vaccaro Speaks at TCPP’s Orthopedic Surgery Specialty Night

An “Orthopedic Surgery Specialty Night” was held on June 10^th at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Dr. Alex Vaccaro, President of Rothman Orthopaedics and Dr. Scott Levin, Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, spoke on the history of Orthopedics in Philadelphia and Leadership.

The event included access to the Mütter Museum and the Historical Medical Library, featuring a display of historic books on orthopedics. Following the cocktail hour was a presentation on “Philadelphia Orthopedics: A Legacy of Leaders, Friends, Collaborators and Competitors” by Dr. Vaccaro and Dr. Levin. Moderating the evening was Dr. J. Milo Sewards, Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and Professor, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. From an audience standpoint, the event contained a healthy mix of Medical Students, Residents & Fellows, along with Physical Therapists, Physicians and a variety of Executive Business Leaders from the orthopedic community.

Speakers

Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PHD, MBA, FCPP is the President of Rothman Orthopaedics; The Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Professor of Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University.

L. Scott Levin, MD, FACS, FCPP is the Paul B. Magnuson Professor of Bone and Joint Surgery, Professor of Surgery (Plastic Surgery); Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania; Vice President and Associate Dean for Resource Development at Penn Medicine.

The College of Physicians of Philadelphia

The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, founded in 1787, is one of the oldest professional medical organizations in the country. Twenty-four physicians of 18th-century Philadelphia gathered "to advance the science of medicine and to thereby lessen human misery." Today, nearly 1,500 Fellows (elected members) continue to convene at the College and work toward better serving the public.
