Rotator Cuff Tear Arthropathy is caused by a combination of a large rotator cuff tear and advanced arthritis. This is caused by the torn rotator cuff tear no longer being able to stabilize the head of the humerus in the glenoid socket which leads to the humerus moving up and rubbing against the acromion. This leads to the surface of the bones being damaged which causes he arthritis to develop.
