A Jones Fracture is a fracture/break to your 5th Metatarsal in your foot. It is one of the most common foot fractures. They typically occur in athletes, dancers and people with jobs that require them to be on their feet.
Symptoms
- Pain
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Difficulty walking
- Bruising or discoloration around the base of your 5th Metatarsal.
- A deformity or bump that’s not usually on your foot.
Causes
- Twisting of your foot
- Overuse
- Falls and slips
Diagnosis
- Your doctor will discuss your symptoms, review your medical history, and perform a thorough physical examination of your foot and ankle.
- An X-ray will identify the type and severity of the fracture.
Treatment
- Nonoperative: Cast immobilization and non weight bearing
- Surgery may be needed and your surgeon would discuss those options with you.
