If you’ve experienced arthritis, degeneration of the joints and disks, and/or pain and discomfort in the spine, it may be time to consult a spine surgeon near Tarrytown. At Rothman Orthopaedic Institute we have an entire team dedicated exclusively to spine health and wellness. As a leader in delivering advanced and innovative orthopaedic specialty services, Rothman physicians are committed to finding the best solution to address and treat conditions affecting the spine.

As an exciting addition for orthopaedic patients in Westchester County, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute is proud to announce a new location.

What Can You Expect from a Spine Surgeon Near Tarrytown

The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Spine Team is comprised of fellowship-trained specialists with extensive clinical and research experience. Practitioners of evidence-based medicine, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Spine Team physicians and surgeons work vigilantly to find the best individual treatment protocol for you. The main goal is to return patients to what they love doing most — safely and efficiently.

Rothman Orthopaedic Institute surgeons effectively perform 3,000-plus spine surgeries per year. In some situations, a spine condition can be treated through anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy, or other non-operative measures. If, however, surgery is the best way to reduce pain, remedy functionality, and improve daily lifestyle and activities, patients couldn’t be in better hands than those of the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Spine Team.

Four Conditions of the Spine Improved Through Surgical Procedures

Today, patients and surgeons reap the benefits of more innovative approaches. For example, in certain scenarios, computer and robotic-assisted surgery aids in spine surgery precision and efficiency. In other instances, Rothman Orthopaedic Institute Spine Team surgeons may be able to address a condition of the spine by performing minimally invasive spine surgery.

Take a look at four spine conditions that can be addressed with spine surgery:

  1. Cervical Spondylosis
When the spinal cord and/or nerve roots become compressed, a spine surgeon will recommend surgery. Either an anterior (front) or posterior (back) spine surgery will take place to relieve compression of the cervical spine. The addition of special implants may be inserted to reinforce the stability of the spine and aid the spinal fusion process.

  2. Herniated Cervical Disc
If nonoperative measures fail, surgery can repair compression of the spinal cord to prevent further damage. Left untreated, a herniated cervical disc can lead to spinal cord dysfunction or myelopathy (loss of balance, problems walking, and issues with fine motor skills).

  3. Spinal Cord Surgery
When a sports injury, motor vehicle accident, or other traumatic incident damages the spine, surgery can be performed to help stabilize the spine and relieve compression of the spinal cord.

  4. Spinal Stenosis Surgery
Spinal stenosis surgery performed most commonly with a decompressive laminectomy, widens the spinal canal to allow additional space for the nerves. A surgeon may use rods and screws to reinforce the stability of the spine.

Get Back to What You Enjoy Most

Don’t let back pain prevent you from getting back to what you love most. When nonoperative therapies haven’t produced the results you hoped for, surgery can often serve as a positive alternative.
