Rothman Orthopedic Residency Program
Rothman Orthopaedics is proud to partner with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to provide a robust and comprehensive orthopedic surgery residency program. Through this collaboration, our residents gain access to a high-volume, tertiary care environment enriched by subspecialty services in trauma, spine, sports, oncology, hand/upper extremity, foot and ankle, as well as joint arthroplasty. The integration of Rothman Orthopaedics into this training structure ensures that residents receive exposure to advanced surgical techniques, multidisciplinary care teams, and complex case management at the forefront of orthopedic practice.
The five‑year curriculum (PGY‑1 through PGY‑5) combines foundational training in the intern year—rotating through general surgery, emergency medicine, and orthopedic services—with progressively more autonomous and specialized roles in subsequent years. Residents rotate through Jefferson’s flagship tertiary hospitals and affiliated sites, gaining hands‑on experience in clinics and the operating room under experienced faculty supervision. Throughout, emphasis is placed not only on surgical skill and patient care but on research, leadership, and professional development, with dedicated rotations for research and subspecialty immersion.
We believe that this joint program offers a unique training environment that merges Rothman’s deep clinical expertise with Jefferson’s academic resources and hospital infrastructure.
